Install
- Install TypePopper in the "Contextual Menu Items" folder in your System
Folder. If this folder does not exist, create it. (Alternatively, you can
drop it onto your System Folder icon, and let the Finder do the work for
you.) The system can handle more than one installed contextual menu plugin
at a time.
- Restart
- You're done!
- The "Type & Creator" menu item will appear at the bottom of the menu
which appears when you Control-Click on a selection in the Finder. This
menu item is hierarchical and displays a number of choices. Depending upon
preferences and what kinds of files are currently selected, the menu may
display different choices.
Menu Items
- Copy Type and Creator as Text: This menu item will copy (1) the file
name, (2) the file type as a four byte code, (3) the file type as hex, (4)
the file creator as a four byte code, and (5) the file creator as hex in
tab-delimited text. Folder names are copied alone.
- Copy Type and Creator: This menu item will COPY the
actual Type and Creator code of the selected file to the clipboard. This
item will not appear if (1) there is more than one file selected or (2)
there is only one folder selected. It is forbidden to copy the type and
creator of a folder. You may however copy Type and Creator of an alias.
- Paste Type and Creator: This menu item will SET the Type
and Creator code of the selected file to the codes present in the
clipboard. IF THE PROPER PREFERENCES ARE SET, THIS OPTION MAY RECURSIVELY
SET ALL TYPES AND CREATORS IN SELECTED FOLDERS!!! BE VERY CAREFUL! THERE
IS NO UNDO! This item will not appear if (1) there are no files selected
or (2) there is no Type and Creator present in the clipboard.
- User Definable Menu Items: If you have defined additional type
and creator settings in the 'Pref' resource, these will appear below the
Copy/Paste operations described above. IF THE PROPER PREFERENCES ARE SET,
THESE OPTIONS WILL RECURSIVELY SET ALL TYPES AND CREATORS IN SELECTED
FOLDERS!!! BE VERY CAREFUL! THERE IS NO UNDO!
