I lost my password! How can I gain access to my PasswordWallet?
There is no way to gain access to your PasswordWallet if you lost your password. Sorry! |
Is it safe to store my "master" password to my PasswordWallet in Mac OS's Keychain?
Yes, and no. Yes because Keychain is safer than, say, a random text file on your hard drive. No because Keychain encrypts with weaker key lengths. Because of this, Keychain becomes the "weak link". |
Do you know any hackers that can help me break into my PasswordWallet?
No. |
Keychain is presenting a dialog even if I have instructed PasswordWallet to not do this.
Before PasswordWallet can access a document's password from the Keychain, the PasswordWallet software must communicate to the system and tell it that it needs the access to the Keychain. This communication sometimes brings up Keychain dialogs, all presented by the system, not PasswordWallet. Unfortunately, if you choose to use Keychain, there is no way around this, and no way to turn it off.
However, if you click "Always Allow" when asked, the dialog should never appear again. |
What's the longest password length?
Password lengths may not exceed 73 characters. This is the maximum length for which Selznick Scientific Software, LLC has been granted by the United States Department of Commerce. |
Is PasswordWallet available yet for PalmOS?
Yes! Be sure to visit our Palm PasswordWallet Web Page! |
PasswordWallet™ is launching URLs with the wrong browser! How can I fix this?
PasswordWallet attempts to use your system settings to launch your default browser if an alternate browser has not been specified for the entry.
The system's default browser can be found, of all places, within Safari's Preferences.
If PasswordWallet is launching a Windows version of IE or FireFox through Parallels, the only way we know of to fix this is to reset your Launch Services Database. There are instructions for this on-line from various web sites. |
Can PasswordWallet insert usernames and passwords directly into my web pages?
Yes! Using PasswordWallet's auto-typing technology, your usernames and passwords can be typed virtually anywhere on the system. Please see instructions for auto-typing from the Help menu within PasswordWallet. It's pretty easy. And addictive. :-) |
How do I know you're not secretly stealing my passwords?
An excellent question. As soon as you push the "OK" button when adding a password to password wallet, your data is immediately encrypted. The only way for the data to be unlocked is with your password, which only you know.
Although for you to be sure, I can only give you my word that my software makes no attempt to save your password to a secret place, or transfer it somewhere over the Internet without your knowledge. In a way, you just have to trust me.
In addition, if I were to steal your passwords, a clever user would certainly figure it out and that would be really bad for business. And I haven't done all of this work just to throw it all away on something like this. :-)
The only place your "master" password can be stored is in the Mac OS X Keychain, but this can be turned off very easily. |
My "master" wallet password is stored in Keychain. I remember my Keychain password, but I've forgotten my master wallet password. How can I get my wallet password?
Using the Keychain control panel, navigate to the wallet item you want a password for, double click it, and press "View Password". You will be prompted for your Keychain password, and then you will be shown your master wallet password. |
Why doesn't my PasswordWallet document open when I double-click PasswordWallet?
As of version 2.0 of PasswordWallet, there is no longer a default file for passwords. PasswordWallet can now open more than one PasswordWallet document at a time. We suggest double-clicking your document instead.
As of version 2.3, preferences for a default file to automatically open when you double-click PasswordWallet are available. Preferences can be set from the "Edit" menu from within the PasswordWallet application. |
How do I have PasswordWallet open an SSH session for me?
In the URL field place: ssh://username@yourserver.com. Then, leave PasswordWallet's username field blank and only fill in the password field. The password will be the only thing that will be AutoTyped. |
Why when I auto-type the username is typed but the Password isn't?
PasswordWallet moves the cursor from the Username field to the Password field by typing a "tab" character. If there is a button between these fields, and you have your system settings turned on to allow tabbing to buttons, this will not work. To fix this, you can either specify extra tab key characters within your password, or turn off this option.
To the right of the username and password fields within PasswordWallet there is a popup menu that can insert the characters that designate tabs, returns, and other goodies. |
How do I remove my master password for my file from the Mac OS X Keychain?
Just change your master password from the "Wallet" menu, uncheck "Save in Keychain" and push "OK". You can change your master password to the same password as your old password. |
